Black & Charcoal - Closet Staples

One fashion tip I've learned is that even during the warmer months, you don't always have to wear bright, bold colors. It's OK to wear darker hues. You can pair black with dark neutrals such as gray, navy and brown.

For my outfit today, I modified these celebrity looks into an ensemble that's fashionably work appropriate. I chose a charcoal tank top with black shoulder detail, and a simple black pencil skirt. I wore black platform pumps by Guess, and a black cardigan to complete the outfit. Four basic pieces to achieve this style, three of which should be staples in every woman's closet.

The Closet Staples - Black skirt, black cardigan, black pumps. All three of these items can be worn throughout all four seasons of the year. Even during the spring and summer months, it can be chilly at night or inside of a restaurant. I always have a black cardi with me at work, or when I'm out in the city at night.

An important thought about this outfit-- you can keep it simple or jazz it up. This look can transform from day to night with a simple addition of a chunky gold necklace or a bright clutch.

Jennifer Aniston let the clothes speak for themselves and didn't accessorize beyond her purse. Selena Gomez, however, dressed it up for the red carpet, and added a fun belt and necklace.

Here is a close up of the fun black and gray strap detail. This small detail adds personality to the whole outfit :)

Make it your own:
Skirt: J.Crew $78
