Featured Fashionista: Sarah!

Happy Tuesday, guys and gals...

Today's post is a Featured Fashionista! GJU reader Sarah shares why she chose this outfit. I think she looks beautiful!
---
Hi GJU!
I was invited to an event where the dress code was "modern chic." I had know idea where to start with that, so I reached out to the one person on twitter I knew could answer my question: @JessCPlatt of Get Jessed Up. After her suggestions, I considered using what I had but ended up going shopping to find something completely new! The colors in the skirt immediately pulled me in. The orange belt with the top gave me color on the top along with the necklace. Nude heels completed the look!

Make it your own:
Jacket: NY & Co. $41.97
Skirt: NY & Co $28.17
Necklace: NY & Co. $14.97
Pumps: Kohl's (on MAJOR sale) $5.99

The only thing I can't find on the website was the orange belt, but I did get that also from NY & Co. They are apparently having a killer sale!

Thanks so much Sarah for sharing your outfit. You look fabulous! You know I love a good pencil skirt!
Have a great day <3

Featured Fashionista: Christa of Fresh Squeezed Fashion!

I've featured Christa of Fresh Squeezed Fashion before because I absolutely love her sense of style. (Here's the previous post featuring Christa!) So, to start off the week, I figured we should get a little color-blocking inspiration from her!

I've featured bright colorblocking on the blog before, in particular, pinks, oranges, and reds in this post and in this post. Christa works this spring trend into her wardrobe by adding on a crisp white boyfriend and metallic flats. Absolutely perfect style for a day in the office!

Here's her outfit description:
--
This outfit really is all about the blazer. I mean, how can it not be with the amazing back detail? That's why I fell in love with it. Exposed zippers are one of my favorite details. The dress is also really on trend for spring: color blocking AND pleats. It's like two for one!

I'm dying over this blazer. I don't have a white blazer in my wardrobe, let alone one with a killer back cut out like Christa's!

Also, that colorblock dress is perfectly on trend for spring. Great staple for the upcoming warm months!

Thanks so much, Christa, for sharing your style on Get Jessed Up!

Want to be featured on GJU?! Send me a photo of your unique look, with a description of where to find the pieces of the ensemble. It can be an outfit inspired by one of my blog posts, or an outfit you put together on your own! Please include the original inspiration photo that you modeled your outfit off of to include in the post. Excited to feature you ladies on GJU!

All for now.

Feature Friday: Seeing Double!

Hey y'all!

First & foremost: Happy Friday! Does anyone else feel like this has been the longest week ever? I'm relieved that it's the weekend.

Now to the fashion.

You remember I did a post on black and red a few weeks ago? Well today, GJU is featuring two fabulous fashionistas who took this trend and made it their own.

First up, we have Adellyn. She lives in NYC, and is fierce in her own right. Here's how she rocked the look:

A couple things to address.
1) Loving those rocker boots & belt! I don't have enough spunk to pull off studs and buckles like this lady can!
2) I now need a red mini.
3) I need to wear said red mini with a black boyfriend blazer. Smokin' hot. Hot tamale. Other red hot references.

Loving it. All around, loving it.

Next up, Katie B. is a Baltimore girl with a smart sense of preppy style. Here's how she made Black & Red her own:

I can't handle how adorbs she is in this pic. I love the red cropped pants, the red & gold necklace, and the houndstooth. Moses knows how much I sweat houndstooth in the fall/winter months.

Let's break this down. Here's how Katie describes her outfit:

"I think this outfit displays a nice mixture of dressing during the ever-difficult transition season of clothes-where it's not warm enough to just wear a sundress or skirts anymore but also not cold enough where you need chords and cable knit layers.

I wanted to not only figure out a good outfit that can be worn in the early fall season, but also repurpose my once summer J. Crew pants to make them more seasonally appropriate. I thought the red and the black and white houndstooth is a nice holiday, festive pairing which is perfect for early November when everyone's starting to feel the holiday soiree vibe! Plus it shows you can seamlessly take summer capris and make them more fall-worthy with the right layering!"

Top-Talbots $119
J. Crew cafe capris-$118
Flats-Nine West apx. $79
Necklace-Kim Last Design
Rings-David Yurman & Tiffany
Watch-Fossil
Bangles-Pink Crab

At this point, she should just have a weekly spot on GJU.

Hope you guys liked today's double-trouble Feature Friday! If you want to be a featured fashionista, send me some pics of you rockin' a look, and why you chose the pieces in the outfit.

Happy weekend everyone :)

Feature Friday: Family Inspired by Fall

Happy Friday everyone!

Today's featured fashionista is Claudia P. from New York. She was inspired by my earth tones blog post, so she recreated an earth tone ensemble for GJU. Well actually... her whole family recreated the look!

Here are Claudia's outfit pics and descriptions:
-----

We all wear earth tone colors when we desire to look warm, inviting and sophisticated. It not only compliments our skin/fur tones but our personalities. Ready to embrace fall.

(P.S. Claudia's a teacher, and I giggled when I noticed the colorful bulletin board background hehe)

Claudia's scarf and military jacket are super cute. Also love those boots!
Seriously.. Claudia's mom Sally is giving some serious sass in this photo. Work it girl.

Quinn the Cat. People pay mad money to rock colors like these. Super fly!
Make it your own:
Claudia:
Jacket - J. Crew about $100
Shirt and jeans - Gap $50 and $69.99
Boots - Steve Madden $140 depending on the store
Bag - Longchamp
Scarf - H & M

Claudia's Mom:
Cardigan, scarf and pants - Gap

Quinn:
Au naturel.

Love this! Love that that whole family got involved in this GJU Feature Friday!

Feature Friday: Work-Appropriate Wild Side

Happy Friday, GJU readers!

I'm so excited for today's featured fashionista: Christa M. She has an incredible sense of style and knowledge of fashion that she shares on her own fashion blog, Fresh Squeezed!

Today, Christa shows off her work-appropriate wild side by rocking the animal print trend. Check her out!

Full length shot-- I love her tights tucked into boots!
The brown trim on her v-neck collar ties perfectly into the colors of the
animal print skirt.
Close up of the colors. Such a great blend of earth tones and animal prints! Perfect for Fall :)

Here's how Christa describes her outfit:

I was inspired by the animal print trend, which is one of the biggest ones this fall. While I can't rock the head-to-toe animal print, I think one piece per outfit is good! This skirt called out to me because it the print, its shape, and the material used. Paired with boots, it's perfect for work (where I wore this outfit) or running errands on the weekend. It's also easy to dress up with a pretty blouse and wedge booties!

Make it your own:

Sunglasses: Michael Kors (similar style here)
Necklace: Eat Pray Love by Dogeared (gift)
Tank: Splendid, Nordstrom Rack, $3
Shirt: J. Crew Factory Outlet, $21
Skirt: T. Tahari, Lord & Taylor, $20
Belt: Kenneth Cole
Tights: Mossimo for Target, Target
Boots: Matisse, Lord & Taylor
Watch: Michael Kors (gift)

Seriously.. she looks fierce! I think her point about wearing one statement animal print piece, versus a head-to-toe leopard/zebra/cow print suit, is more tasteful.

I know some of you are intimated by such bold prints, but I hope this inspires you to try out animal prints this weekend!

Happy Halloween!

Feature Friday: Kate Middleton Knows What's Up

It's time for another feature Friday! WHOOP WHOOP! Thanks everyone so much for sending in pics of yourself All Jessed Up. That's really awesome that you take what you see on GJU and apply it to your everyday style. Seriously. Really. Effin. Awesome.

Anyways..

Today's post is by Kelly M. who was inspired by this pic of the one and only Duchess Middleton. (Gorg!)

Here's Kelly's outfit explanation:

Plaid skirts are in this fall, and Kate Middleton knows what's up (we expect nothing less). The most advantageous aspect of "Make it Your Own" is you get to add your own personal flavor to the mix. For instance, above is a photo of Kate, clothed in a red paid skirt and black turtleneck. I decided to stick with the key ingredient of the plaid skirt, and work my way to a colorful, fall purple turtleneck instead. To top it off and to give the outfit a bit more spirit, I added a pair of yellow tights. Perfect for the office, yet spunky enough to be considered casual Friday wear.

Make it your own:
Blouse: Guess, $49.99
Skirt: Lord & Taylor 52.99
Yellow Tights: American Apparel, $25.00
Necklace: White House Black Market, $28.00

Kelly looks fierce in those yellow tights.. definitely something I want to try! And P.S. I sweat that metallic royal blue nail polish she's sporting.

Feature Friday!

I'm so excited for today's post because it's the first Feature Friday on Get Jessed Up!

What's Feature Friday?: If you're inspired by a look you see on GJU, and modify it with your own wardrobe, I'd love to see a photo of your outfit! Every Friday, or every other Friday (I haven't quite figured that out yet.. depends on the amount of photos I receive) I'll feature one a reader's photo, and if she has a personal blog, I'll link to that as well! I love my readers, and so what better way to show that love than to show them off on my blog!

Today's Featured reader is Jess J. (or "Princess Pinot" according to her blog-- love her more already). Jess is a 20-something fashionista living in Baltimore (woot woot!). She was inspired by the Chambray & Lace blog post, so she sassed it up with her own personal style. I think she nailed it! Jess looks sophisticated and chic-- fashionably ready to take on the day!

Here's Jess' photo and outfit explanation:

Here's a photo that I took of my outfit today, inspired by your post yesterday (Chambray & Lace). I sort of combined the two looks - booties on the bottom and button down/lace on top.

Shirt: Express
Skirt: Ann Taylor Loft
Tights: who knows? Target maybe?
Necklace: lia sophia Sugar Plum $128 (but I got it at a party so it was discounted!)
Watch: Fossil Stella $95 (gift)
Bracelet: Smyth (similar)
Booties: Nine West outlet

(Want to know more about Jess? Check out her blog Just Call Me Janks!)

I'm loving this look on Jess, between the pop of pink and that fabulous layered necklace!

Want to be featured on a Friday?! Send me a photo of your unique look, with a description of where to find the pieces of the ensemble! It can be a look inspired by one of my blog posts, or, a look you found on your own! If it's one not yet featured on the blog, please also include the original inspiration photo. I look forward to seeing the pics of you ladies all Jessed Up!

Have a great weekend :)
