Third Time's a Charm

I've mentioned J's Everyday Fashion in several of my blog posts because I draw so much inspiration from her outfits. She does so well what I try to do.. recreate runway and celeb looks with the clothes she already has in her closet. I wanted to take one of her looks that she modeled off an Olsen twin, and try to modify it with what I owned-- I think I got it pretty close!

(Again, because this pic was taken on my phone, the lighting isn't so great. I'm investing in a digital camera remote/clicker so I can take better quality photos for my blog! For now, if you click on the photos, they'll get bigger to show better detail!)

Color Combo: Maize and Leaf

I wish I owned everything from Anthropologie. I love its aesthetic-- the clothes are natural, feminine, whimsical. I once heard that the reason many women like Anthropologie is because the whole atmosphere of the store-- it's scent, the furniture, etc. - "seduces us softly." This is so true. You walk in and immediately feel welcome. For me, the clothing does the same. When I walk into the store, I am drawn to the embroidered tops, and gorgeously detailed dresses, and fabulous layered necklaces.

For today's outfit, I modified a look from the Anthropologie online look-book. It's a green striped shirt, paired with a dark pant. I loved how the photograph was taken in front of a burnt orange wall! I thought that it really brought out the colors in the outfit.

What I'm wearing: This look was put together by pairing a textured black pencil skirt with a green & white striped tee. I added a statement ring to match the inspiration photo, and also incorporated my own unique style with a bold necklace. I happened to find a burnt orange wall to take my picture in front of, so I was super excited about that!

Let me know what you guys think! Would you wear this?

Casual Weekend Style: Jennifer Aniston

I pretty much love everything about Jennifer Aniston! Her hair (ever since "The Rachel"), her style, her confidence. She's a rockstar on and off the silver screen.

One of my favorite things about Jen (we're clearly on a first name basis) is how she throws together outfits that are casual, but at the same time, have style elements woven throughout. Today's outfit was inspired by one of her off-camera looks:

I love how she chose boyfriend jeans with a looser fit, and cuffed the bottoms to add a flair of casual-chic style. My Gap boyfriend-style denim capris are one of my favorite pairs of pants. They're loose, comfy, and match everything. Throwing on a light, summer scarf is a great way to add a touch of fashion that involves little-to-no styling. This whole outfit is easy, casual, & versatile. Make it your own by swapping in a bright, patterned scarf!

Color Blocking

Color blocking was a fashion trend that began picking up this summer, but I think it will gain even more momentum this upcoming Fall 2011 season. I've seen it all over the runways and red carpets. What's so intriguing about color blocking is that you can pair together colors you wouldn't necessarily think would match.

To go along with that thought, today's outfit is modeled off of a Gucci ensemble that Camilla Belle wore on the red carpet back in February. The colorful pieces are all from Gucci's Spring/Summer 2011 line.

via Shop the Trend
I would have never matched bright orange with teal and purple. It's just not something I'd wear... until now.  I modified this outfit a little bit, because I don't own green pants or an orange blazer. Instead, I wore an orange pair of capris, and a teal cardigan. My tank is the same purple as the Gucci one.

(Note: In person.. the colors of my tank and cardigan are almost exact to the one's Camilla is wearing. For some reason, my pictures don't portray that... the lighting was off or something. My tank looks blue and my sweater doesn't look as green as it actually is. Somewhat frustrated about that... but you get the idea!)

Also.. I'm OBSESSED with the earrings I'm wearing. They're from one of my favorite Etsy boutiques called EveryOccasionDesigns. I put them on today to match the earrings that Camilla is wearing, but I wear this pair of earrings all the time. The gold disk looks so nice against my hair when I wear it down, and sometimes I like to show them off with my hair pulled up. They're simple but they add so much character to an outfit!

Thursday Trend: Tribal!

I'm sure you've picked up on this from reading my blog posts, but if not, here's a reminder: I love bright colors, and I love a good print!

One fashion trend for Spring 2011 that suits both bold colors and unique patterns is Tribal print. It's all over the runway. Designers such as Vivienne Westwood, L.A.M.B., & Diane Von Furtsenburg have been embracing this movement. Even celebs have been spotted wearing these bold patterns. (Check out Michelle Obama in her Tracy Reese dress!)

Across the board, tribal patterns are dynamic, and they are statement of your confidence and spunk. One thing I've noticed with current tribal trends is that the outfits are often belted or cinched at the waist. This breaks up the pattern and gives more shape to the frock.

For todays outfit, I was really inspired by a South Moon Under tribal print and lace dress. Mixing together the bright blue tribal print with the lace detail on the shoulders is a unique look that gives off both a vintage (lace), as well as a contemporary (print) feel.

I also really love the gold jewelry paired with this dress. Sometimes people have a hard time deciding between silver or gold accessories. I think with this dress, since the lace, center fabric, and tie around the waist all have a yellow-tone to them, this outfit is best accented with yellow gold.

My dress is from a boutique called Francesca's. The two things that drew me to this dress were the color and the cut. I absolutely love the one-shoulder look. It draws attention to your shoulders and neck, which I think is flattering! It's also belted at the waist, similar to the styles in the inspiration photos above. The blue color is stunning. It's a gorgeous, bright royal blue! I accessorized with a gold necklace, green & gold bangle bracelet, a gold ring. My sandals are also a jewel-tone so they keep with the gold theme!

Style Inspiration: Katie Holmes

For today's outfit, I was really inspired by a a photo of Katie Holmes walking casually down the street. First of all, I love Katie's style in general. She's always so effortlessly put together, like she threw on a top she quickly grabbed from the closet, paired it with her favorite jeans, and was ready to go. She also gets bonus points for being the face of Ann Taylor -- totally dig that store!

With this outfit, I loved that she was rockin' some sparkle & just having fun on a day off. I also really like the color contrast between the light, neutral-tone shirt and dark pants. I think it's visually interesting, and definitely a look I wanted to recreate!

For my outfit, I modified the look and gave it a summer twist (it was way too hot today to be wearing long sleeves and full-length pants!). Both my top and capris are from J.Crew, & I wore black heels to match Katie's. I happy with my summer version of this look!

What do you guys think?

Black & Charcoal - Closet Staples

One fashion tip I've learned is that even during the warmer months, you don't always have to wear bright, bold colors. It's OK to wear darker hues. You can pair black with dark neutrals such as gray, navy and brown.

For my outfit today, I modified these celebrity looks into an ensemble that's fashionably work appropriate. I chose a charcoal tank top with black shoulder detail, and a simple black pencil skirt. I wore black platform pumps by Guess, and a black cardigan to complete the outfit. Four basic pieces to achieve this style, three of which should be staples in every woman's closet.

The Closet Staples - Black skirt, black cardigan, black pumps. All three of these items can be worn throughout all four seasons of the year. Even during the spring and summer months, it can be chilly at night or inside of a restaurant. I always have a black cardi with me at work, or when I'm out in the city at night.

An important thought about this outfit-- you can keep it simple or jazz it up. This look can transform from day to night with a simple addition of a chunky gold necklace or a bright clutch.

Jennifer Aniston let the clothes speak for themselves and didn't accessorize beyond her purse. Selena Gomez, however, dressed it up for the red carpet, and added a fun belt and necklace.

Here is a close up of the fun black and gray strap detail. This small detail adds personality to the whole outfit :)
