It was absolutely perfect weather yesterday for Mother's Day. After brunch, I went over to a local park to walk around and soak in the sun... and it happened to be a good spot for a couple blog photos!

I'm really getting into the flower headband trend. I know that's all it is-- a trend-- but even still, I've jumped aboard the bandwagon. I picked up this daisy headband at Target.

I was invited to an event where the dress code was "modern chic." I had know idea where to start with that, so I reached out to the one person on twitter I knew could answer my question: @JessCPlatt of Get Jessed Up. After her suggestions, I considered using what I had but ended up going shopping to find something completely new! The colors in the skirt immediately pulled me in. The orange belt with the top gave me color on the top along with the necklace. Nude heels completed the look!

Stems In Full Bloom

That's right, ladies and gents. Spring is right around the corner and what better way to acknowledge the change of season than to sport floral pants!

Many designers displayed floral prints in their Spring 2012 collections. Here are some of my favorites:

So in true GJU style, I had to have a pair of these floral pants for Spring. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow for $430 - $990 pants. However, the ones I got from Talbots for several hundred dollars less are just as gorgeous. The material is a great, durable quality fabric and the pattern evokes a very rich feeling. These are the ones I have:

Monday Must-Haves: Hair Accessories!

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for checking in with GJU to start off your week!

Today's post is all about your hair. Well.. no. It's about jazzing up your hair with statement pieces (jessing it up, if you will)!

Here are some of my favorite pieces for this holiday season!

Warning-- You don't want to get over zealous in your attempt to Jess it up. Keep it simple. Either go sparkly, floral, double band, feathered.. keep it to one of the looks above (not all 4 at once) and you'll always be safe. Here are some ways NOT to rock embellished hear wear:

Those flowers are far too large. Reminder: you don't want to resemble an overgrown garden.

On that same token, you don't want to look like you slaughtered a peacock. You see why.

What to Wear Weekend: Dresses & Cowboy Boots

This is definitely a trend I've been seeing a lot more often as people continue to transition their summer wardrobes into fall/winter. You can still wear you favorite dresses, but for added warmth, put on boots instead of sandals. It's a good way to get additional use out of your flirty frocks in cooler months, and it can even work further into the winter by adding tights/jackets/additional layering pieces.

For my outfit, I wore a feminine, floral dress with brown cowboy boots (sans tights). It was chilly out today, so I also had on a black cardigan and a vest for when I went outside. I cinched the waist of the dress with a leopard print belt. (As you know, I love mixing patterns-- in this case floral and animal print! It's a small detail but it adds a touch of personality and spunk to any outfit!)

Rachel Bilson Goes Red

The gorgeous Rachel Bilson donned bright red crops at an event in Beverly Hills this past August. I really love this outfit! The floral shirt and wavy hair give off a flirty, girly vibe, fiercely contrasted by the bright bottoms and leopard print heels. Definitely a risky ensemble, but RB pulls it off beautifully.

Me-- not so much. Here's my stab at this outfit. The crops I wore were slightly lighter in tone (and apparently don't look so great in photos), so I picked a lighter floral top to match that color story. I don't own leopard pumps, but these Missoni for Target heels have the same black & beige effect as the animal print. I also held a black clutch to match Rachel's finished look.

Tried to match the way RB was standing.. hand in pocket, etc. Dorky, I know. 

Thoughts on this? I was kind of disappointed in how the outfit looked in the photos. I thought in real life, the colors worked better and made more sense.

Fall Florals: Get Invested.

It's starting to get cooler outside, and that means it's time to break out your opaque tights and boots (woot woot)! I love this outfit. I love the femininity that comes through between the flowy sleeves & the florals, and the loose, wavy hairstyle with clean, pure makeup.

For my outfit, I wore my (favorite) puffy green vest- it's super cozy! I swapped the colors on the top and bottom of my inspiration photo-- so instead, I incorporated a pink floral blouse and dark skirt. I added in my own unique style elements with a bright purple skinny belt and brown boots, versus black. For fun, I also complimented the color story of this outfit with a turquoise cocktail ring. I went with a really natural hairstyle and makeup application to match the photo above. What do you guys think?

This weekend, I wanted to keep it casual and colorful! I found this outfit from the Eniko Mihalik for Mango Spring/Summer 2011 look book. I absolutely love the colors paired together in this look!

Since it's summer, I've not gotten much use out of my scarves. It was fun to break them out, and incorporate a floral scarf into my outfit today!

Timeless, fun, sophisticated. Most importantly, effortless. Throwing on a floral sundress this summer is an easy way to look chic and stylish. Floral dresses are great for almost any occasion. Longer maxi dresses are perfect for special events, while knee length and shorter sundresses are perfect for work-wear or a casual look.

For my outfit, I wore a purple and green floral sundress from Lauren Conrad's LC collection for Kohl's. My favorite part about the dress is the cut-out and bow detail on the back! Paired with a thin black belt and nude sandals, this is a simple outfit that proves casual can still be fashionable!
