Thursday Trend: Say My Name, Say My Name!

If you're a Sex & The City fan, you'll appreciate today's trend. Today's post is all about nameplate necklaces, like the signature one Carrie Bradshaw wore on the show.

Personalized name necklaces have been around for a while now, but they've recently seen a comeback in the celebrity sphere.

Examples:

The iconic Carrie necklace that was seen on Sex & The City throughout all 6 seasons.

Kim K. name necklace in gold, layered with necklaces in varying lengths

Lindsay Lohan

Christina Applegate's necklace reads "Sadie," the name of her daughter

Taylor Swift goes the initials route, versus full name

Brooklyn Decker

Amber Rose

Lauren Conrad

As you may have guessed, I'm on board with this trend. I admit-- I have a soft spot for nameplate necklaces ever since Sarah Jessica Parker graced the TV screen as Carrie Bradshaw.

When this was taken, my computer camera flipped the photo to a mirror image,
but you get the idea :)

If you want to order one for yourself, I really like the ones from Bauble Bar. They've got full name, initials, and a couple other options, and you can choose, silver, gold, or a fun color. I just ordered myself the Twitter handle necklace in gold (that was featured on the TODAY Show) and I cannot wait til it comes in the mail.

All for now.

Hope you guys have a great Thursday <3

All the best,

Thursday Trend: Mixing Metals

Jewelry rules used to warn against mixing gold and silver-- it was a fashion faux pas.

Well, ladies and gents, times have changed. It's the 21st century. You can wear navy with black. You can wear white after Labor Day. And damnit, you can mix gold & silver!

Marie Claire made a good point: upscale designers have long been integrating different metals in single pieces. A great example of this is David Yurman.

Some examples of DY jewelry:

If you don't own jewelry that has both gold & silver on the same piece, here are some great ways to achieve this look!

1) Stack bracelets of different mixed metals. You can include silver, gold, rose gold, stainless steel, and also incorporate colors into the mix!

Love this last one because it also throws in diamonds, a girl's my best friend.

2) Wear a watch that resembles gold and silver. Often, watches made of stainless steel have gold accents. This looks like silver & gold! My watch from Michael Kors has this look.

This is my watch. I absolutely love it! It makes wearing silver & gold together
super easy because it already incorporates both colors in the palette.
Other Michael Kors watches that have this design:

Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Option three has rose gold, a metal we're seeing incorporated more in recent months. I don't love rose gold on me, but it's a great alternative to yellow gold which some people dislike against their skin tones.

Now that gold and silver are represented in the watch, it makes wearing jewelry/accessories of different metals a no-brainer. Add on different rings, bracelets, etc. like the stacking photos above.

*Or, if you prefer to keep it simple, this sort of watch designs allows for you to go either/or in terms of metal. Stick with all gold/all silver in the rest of your overall outfit.

3) Carry a bag with elements of both silver & gold- whether its hardware (zippers) or metallic fabric choices. This opens the door to wear both colors in jewelry/clothing fabrics because it ties the other pieces in with the theme of the bag.

*Or, like Beyonce, choose to go with one metal element displayed in your bag, and run with it! She rocks patent gold pumps and gold jewelry detail throughout her look!

So, do you mix metals? How? I'd love to see some pics of how you work this trend!

Happy Thursday!
